Synopsis
Monday: five-year-old Matthew Faraday is abducted. His face is splashed across newspaper front pages. His parents and the police are desperate. Can anyone help find their little boy before it is too late?
Psychotherapist Frieda Klein just might know something.
One of her patients describes dreams of seizing a boy who is the spitting image of Matthew. Convinced at first the police will dismiss her fears out of hand, Frieda reluctantly finds herself drawn into the heart of the case. A previous abduction, from twenty years ago, suggests a new lead - one that only Frieda, an expert on the minds of disturbed individuals, can uncover.
Struggling to make sense of this terrifying investigation, Frieda will face her darkest fears in the hunt for a clever and brutal killer . . .
Review
I am a huge Nicci French fan. This writing pair have a great imagination for crime writing. It usually takes a lot for me to get into crime stories. The 'jumpy' nature of them (by that I don't mean scary I mean, time scale jumps) take some getting used too. Frieda Klein the protagonist in this series is relatable and yet mysterious also, the development of the characters is something that draws you in as a reader creating a connection which allows you to think as they do which is no mean feat in the written word. I also found myself enjoying secondary characters just as much namely Josef. What also drew me this book as morbid as it may sound was its basis on child abduction, something you would imagine to be a difficult subject matter to write about, but it is done here with great success and with the utmost decorum. This story is indeed thought provoking and exciting, there are many plot twists and turns to keep you hooked some predictable and some unexpected making the story multidimensional. Needless to say this book remains in your consciousness long after you have finished turning the final pages. A great read and a blinding success in my opinion you can only imagine my excitement when I heard it was indeed a series. Cannot wait to read Tuesday's Gone.
