For those that don’t know an ARC is an Advanced Reader Copy or an Advanced Review Copy. Publishers and authors use ARCs to create the initial buzz for their new books prior to their release.

You know the quotes on the back sleeves of books from papers or other author? That’s how they get them, sending out pre-release copies of their works.

I wanted to draw some attention to this with a post because I have found a great site that offers this to regular people like us!

https://www.readersfirst.co.uk/

This site is for anyone and everyone to join. As a first reader you have the chance to read excerpts (usually the first chapter) of upcoming releases. You are awarded points when you give what they like to call a first impression or a mini review. By doing this you are entered into the prize draw for that book, if you win you will receive the ARC which they then ask you to read and review as a whole. You can simply post your review for more points on their site or you can share your review with amazon and goodreads and such for even more points. You will receive bonus points for posting your review before the release date and also for posting your review on an external site (Amazon) on publication day. After collecting enough points you are then given a copy of your choice of any of the books on their site for free.

I have been a member for a few months now and have won two of four prize draws that I entered so it is all completely genuine. If you are like me and can never decide what to read next or are simply trying to create an interesting TBR (to be read) shelf this site is awesome.

There are other ways to receive ARCs too. If you are keen on writing like me, create a blog with reviews of books. Once I have finished the two ARCs I have I will be posing reviews here and tagging them as I do all my posts. Next step after that is to approach publishers or authors directly and ask them for ARCs. The more successful your choice of publicising your reviews the more likely they are to agree to send them to you. Have a look at the YouTube community Booktube there are so many wonderful people in there that can give you some wonderful tips on how to indulge your craving for new and anticipated reads.
