Someone Else’s Ocean by Kate Stewart

Synopsis
Now a #1 Bestseller in Inspirational Romance and Amazon TOP 50 Bestseller!
The first time I met Ian Kemp in the sparkling blue waters of St. Thomas, I was six years old and we shared a summer beneath the stars.
The second time I met Ian Kemp, he was a shell of the boy I once knew. Turbulent and infuriating, he refused my friendship at every turn. Like me, he was a casualty of life’s cruelty, but we were planets apart.
We’d both sought refuge on the island, hoping to find our anchor. Instead, we found each other and managed to reclaim our stars...until we both got swept away.
Review
I absolutely fell in love with this book. I’m fairly new to the romance genre but this book has awoken something within me that has begun to crave the passion within their pages. I now want to read more written by Kate Stewart. Her writing style is one that I have found easy and pleasant to read. The mature content has been written with such grace and decorum that it in no way felt seedy or inappropriate. That is the reason to be completely honest that I have up until now stayed clear of romance novels in general. I am thrilled to say however that I believe my opinion is slowly turning.
I went into this book completely blind, having no idea what it was about, having heard nothing about it. Not even having read other reviews which is actually beginning to be my pattern before choosing my next read. This book was a complete impulse buy I am unashamed to say I bought it solely on the look of the cover. I enjoy the excitement of purchases like this, 9 out the 10 times I have done this the book has been one that I have thoroughly enjoyed and this has been no exception. It was a real page turner, I found myself in what I have begun to call ‘a binge read’ (reading a book in one sitting) I began it on the early morning of one of my rare days off from work and barely put it down until it was finished later that same day. I think the only time I did was for food and comfort breaks.
My experience was made all the more exciting by the fact I had combined my reading experience with the expertly read audiobook. The voices of our characters were so clearly read and performed I was in no doubt at any time, who was being portrayed at any one time. I applaud those responsible for the casting choices.
I need a Ian Kemp in my life, his character was beautifully written by Stewart. I had a very satisfying experience creating him in my minds eye, I am unabashed when I say he was heartwarmingly imagined. Developing more as the story progressed I found myself utterly disappointed when I had finished the book to find he was not standing before me. Cody was equally as easy to imagine. My imagination was fuelled with images of their interactions more and more as the depth of description became more refined. I could effortlessly envisage myself in Cody’s position, in fact the same night I finished the story I don’t mind telling you, I had some rather vivid dreams!
I wouldn't like to say I was a prude but upon reading this book I was rather shocked the first time our characters shared an intimate scene together. However I did not find myself in any way shying away from it, in fact it had quite the opposite effect.
All in all this story was a welcome change to my preferred experiences as a reader. I think I had become quite ‘stuck‘ in the sense that I had proceeded to read in a set genre or by set author. Now be that as it may I believe I have fashioned a new way of reading. Impulse buys and reads have reignited a great excitement for me and I cannot wait to see what I pick up next.
